LOUDONVILLE, New York – The Marist volleyball team opened a four-match road trip by sweeping the Siena Saints on Friday night. The victory was the Red Foxes second in a row, and fifth in their last six matches. Marist won all six sets it played against Siena this season, resulting in a season sweep on a 2-0 record.
With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 11-12 on the season, and 9-4 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Meanwhile, the Saints fall to 9-15 overall on the year, and 4-9 in the conference. Marist now sits in sole possession of fourth place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings.
- Marist got off to a blazing start, and never relinquished momentum all the way through the first set. The Red Foxes opened on a 7-1 run, and Siena would not sniff the lead the rest of the way. Back-to-back kills from Stephanie Stone extended Marist's lead to 14-7, and Siena called for timeout to try and quell Marist's hot start. It did not work, and the Red Foxes closed the set on an 11-2 run, picking up a commanding 25-9 set one victory, a set in which they only committed one single error.
- Marist's torrid start continued into set two, as Marist took an early 10-7 lead. Nikki DeSerpa picked up three kills in the next five rallies, extending the Red Foxes' lead to 14-8. After three straight attack errors, Marist called for time with a five-point lead to regroup. Out of the timeout, Fergus crushed three straight kills, and put the Red Foxes in front by a score of 20-12. Marist went on to take the set 25-16.
- As per the theme of the whole match, the Red Fox offense just could not be stopped in set three. Marist took an early 13-8 lead, and forced Siena to burn its first timeout. A 4-1 run out of the timeout, capped by a monster Stone kill, all but put a bow on it for the Red Foxes. Marist went on to win the set, 25-17, and took the match 3-0.
- Fergus had a match-high 13 kills and added seven digs and five total blocks. DeSerpa joined her as the only other player with double-figure kills in the match, totaling 10.
- Stone accumulated nine kills and added a match-high six total blocks.
- McKinley Fox tallied a match-high 36 assists. Sophia Theriot had a match-high 15 digs.
- Dakota Jackson led Siena with six kills. Maddy Dunigan also had five kills for the Saints.
- Marist outhit Siena, .387-.071.
- Stone's nine kills were on 11 attempts with no errors. This was good for an .818 hitting percentage, a career-high.
- Marist has now won its last six matchups against the Saints, dating back to 2017.
The Red Foxes have the rest of the weekend off, and will return to the court on Wednesday, November 6 against Fairfield. The match will be the second of a four-match road trip. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
