Men’s Soccer Welcomes Manhattan in MAAC Quarterfinals

No. 4 Red Foxes to Host No. 5 Jaspers in Opening Round of Tournament

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Having clinched the fourth seed, Marist men's soccer earned the right to host the quarterfinal round of the MAAC Championships and will host fifth-seeded Manhattan on Sunday, November 10. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
 
HOW TO FOLLOW
  • Tickets are on sale at https://maac.ticketleap.com/. Students can attend for free with a valid Marist ID.
  • The game will air on ESPN+, and is available to fans who have an ESPN+ subscription.
  • Live stats will be provided via GoRedFoxes.com.

THE SEASON SO FAR
  • Marist went 9-8 overall, earning non-conference victories over Gonzaga, Saint Joseph's and Hofstra.
  • The Red Foxes went 6-4 in the conference, going 6-2 in the final eight games.
  • At home, the men are 7-2 on the season.
RED FOX LEADERS
  • Junior Allen Gavilanes is leading the charge with six goals and five assists for 17 points. He scored the game-winning goal against Monmouth on October 30.
  • Freshman Stefan Copetti has backed him up with four goals and six assists for 14 points. He scored game-winners against Hofstra and Siena.
  • Junior Huib Achterkamp has contributed six goals, with five coming from penalty kicks. He is 5-for-5 on PKs for the season, a mark which ranks second in the nation.
  • Sophomore Samuel Ilin has played every minute of the season in the goal, and has a save percentage of 72.2 with 65 stops.
PLAYOFF HISTORY
  • Marist is in the MAAC Playoffs for the second-consecutive season, having earned the third seed in the 2018.
  • That year, they defeated sixth-seeded Saint Peter's in the quarterfinals by a score of 1-0.
  • The Red Foxes are aiming to appear in the MAAC Semifinals for the second-straight year.
THE REMATCH
  • Marist met Manhattan in Riverdale on October 19, earning a 3-2 victory after a back-and-forth battle.
  • Samad Bounthong scored to give the Red Foxes the lead at the end of the first half, but midway through the second, the Jaspers scored twice in two minutes to take a 2-1 advantage.
  • Stefan Copetti found the net in the 80th minute to tie the game, and then Justin Jaime scored the game-winner with just six seconds left in regulation to shock the Jaspers.
SCOUTING MANHATTAN
  • The Jaspers finished the season 6-9-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the MAAC. They tied Siena 0-0 to close the regular season on Wednesday.
  • Berti Fourrier leads the team with five goals and three assists for 13 points.
  • Marcellin Gohier has played the bulk of the season at goalkeeper, and boasts a save percentage of 72.6 with 53 stops.
PLAYOFF BRACKET
  • The winner of this match will move on to face either top-seeded Saint Peter's or second-seeded Quinnipiac on Thursday, November 14.
  • If third-seeded Iona defeats sixth-seeded Rider, the winner of Marist and Manhattan's game will play Saint Peter's. If Rider prevails, Marist or Manhattan will face Quinnipiac.
