Women's Basketball Hosts Canisius on Play4Kay Night and Autograph Night

Fans Encouraged to Wear Pink to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist Athletics Department will host its annual Play4Kay Night on Saturday, Feb. 16, when women's basketball (17-8, 9-4 MAAC) faces Canisius (9-15, 7-6 MAAC) at 7 p.m. in McCann Arena. In addition to Play4Kay Night, the team will sign autographs for fans after the game.

ABOUT MILES OF HOPE BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION
 
The Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) public charity established in March 2004. The mission of the foundation is to fund support services and outreach for people affected by breast cancer within the nine counties of the Hudson Valley, New York (Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Ulster, Greene, and Sullivan counties).

  • The Red Foxes fell to Rider 70-64 on Saturday, February 9th.
  • Red-shirt junior Alana Gilmer led Marist with 18 points on 7-10 shooting from the field, and in rebounds with six.
  • Junior Rebekah Hand added 17 points on 6-11 shooting from the floor and 3-5 from behind the arc.
  • Red-shirt junior Grace Vander Weide tallied seven assists, while senior Lovisa Henningsdottir swatted two blocks.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
  • Canisius is coming off of a 74-52 loss to Niagara on Wednesday, February 13th. The Golden Griffins had three scorers reach double figures.
  • Tiana Pugh led the way with 12 points, followed by Anndea Zeigler and D'jhai Patterson-Ricks with 10 each.
  • Danielle Sanderlin led the team with nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals.
PREVIOUS MATCHUP WITH CANISIUS
  • When Marist and Canisius met on January 5th, the Red Foxes won 71-66.
  • Alana Gilmer led the way with 22 points on 7-16 shooting from the field and 7-10 from the charity stripe.
  • Rebekah Hand added 13, and Grace Vander Weide was the third Red Fox in double figures with 12.
  • Gilmer and Hand tied for the lead in rebounds with six, while Vander Weide and sophomore Allie Best tied for the team lead in assists with four each.
GILMER OWNS THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
In three career games vs. Canisius, Alana Gilmer has been dominant. She averages 20.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. In those games, she is shooting 22-41 (53.7%) from the field, 3-8 (37.5%) from three-point range, and 13-16 (81.25%) from the stripe. The highlight game was on January 28th, 2018, when Gilmer put up 27 points on 10-11 shooting, grabbed seven boards, and dished out three assists.
