COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – Marist men's lacrosse dropped its season opener on Saturday afternoon, losing 12-6 to the Air Force Falcons. With the win, the Falcons improve to 1-1 on the season, while Marist falls to 0-1. Â

- Air Force drew first blood, taking a 1-0 lead with 11:30 remaining in the first quarter on a goal from Quincy Penne.
- Freshman Jojo Pirreca evened up the score at 1-1 at the 10:33 mark, but the Falcons closed out the quarter on a 3-0 scoring run, taking a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.
- Air Force kept rolling in the second period, scoring four straight goals to open the period, extending their overall run to 7-0. The Falcons' defense remained stout throughout the entirety of the second quarter, holding the Red Foxes scoreless in the period. Air Force took an 8-1 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- The Red Foxes and Falcons traded scores to open the second half. Trey Lervick struck first for Air Force with 12:10 remaining, and less then two minutes later, red-shirt sophomore Jake Weinman answered with a goal of his own off a pass from junior Joe Tierney.
- Air Force extended its lead to 11-2 with 3:58 remaining in the third after another goal from Lervick, and took that lead into the fourth quarter.
- The Red Foxes closed the gap to just six after three straight goals from senior Matthew Selts, Pirreca, and Tierney early in the fourth.
- Tierney added another goal with 5:21 remaining in the game to make the score 11-6, but Air Force was able to fend off Marist's run and hold on to win the game, 12-6.

- Tierney had a huge game for the Red Foxes, scoring two goals, dishing out two assists and picking up one ground ball.
- Lervick had a game-high four goals, and added a ground ball.
- Air Force had a huge advantage in shots, leading Marist 43-22 (including 21-12 in shots on goal.
- The Falcons were a perfect 16-16 on clear attempts, while the Red Foxes were just 11-17.
- Red-shirt sophomore Jake Macgregor made nine saves in the goal for Marist.

- Pirreca's goal in the first quarter was the first goal of his career.
- Tierney has now scored at least one point in 30 straight games.Â

The Red Foxes will continue their road trip to open the season, and travel to West Point, NY to take on Army on Tuesday, February 19. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
