Men's Lacrosse Edged by Local Rival Army

The Black Knights Used a Strong Second Half to Take Down Marist

WEST POINT, New York – Marist fell 10-4 to #15/#13 Army at Michie Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The defense made a tremendous effort to keep Marist in the game early on, but the Black Knights pulled away in the second half.
 
SUMMARY
  • Both teams played strong defense to start the game. Jake Macgregor made four saves in the first quarter to set the tone for the Red Foxes.
  • With 1:16 left in the first quarter, Army's Brendan Ryan scored to give the Black Knights a 1-0 lead to end the first quarter.
  • Army opened up the second quarter with two goals. Marist responded with goals from Jake Weinman and Matthew Selts to make it a one point game again.
  • With 1:43 left in the quarter and Marist playing a man-up, the Red Foxes had a chance to equalize. Marist was not able to get a shot off and went into the locker room down 3-2.
  • Army scored minutes into the third quarter to go up by two scores, but Marist won the ensuing faceoff and Joe Tierney scored to make it a one point game.
  • The Black Knights went on a 3-0 run to close out the third quarter.
  • Despite going a perfect 5-for-5 from the faceoff in the four quarter, Marist was only able to add one goal while Army scored three more en route to a win.

  • Weinman and Selts each had two points for the Red Foxes
  • Marist dominated the faceoff, with Peyton Smith winning 14 of 18 and going a perfect 11-for-11 in the second half.
  • In his second career start, Jake Macgregor played well between the pipes, making 16 saves and tallying a .615 save percentage.
  • Army outshot Marist 46-27.
  • Marist only recorded one penalty on the day.

  • Smith's 10 ground balls is a career high.
  • James Sarrocco matched a career high with four caused turnovers.
