Women's Basketball Moves Past Monmouth

Red Foxes Clinch #3 Seed in the MAAC Tournament

WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey – Marist women's basketball took care of business at Monmouth, earning the win 69-45. Though it was a four-point game through 20 minutes, the Red Foxes outscored the Hawks 41-21 in the second half to pull away for the victory. With the #3 seed in the MAAC tournament now clinched, Marist will play their first game of the MAAC tournament on Saturday, March 9 at noon.
SUMMARY
  • The game got off to a slow start, with Marist shooting 2-for-6 and Monmouth shooting 3-for-10 by the first media timeout. The Hawks led 6-4.
  • Out of the timeout, Marist made all three of their next field goal attempts and led 11-9 at the end of the quarter.
  • The Red Foxes continued their momentum from the first quarter and started the second with a 9-3 run. Every player that had touched the floor to that point had scored.
  • Marist and Monmouth went on alternating runs to close the second, but the Red Foxes led 28-24 when the halftime buzzer sounded.
  • At the half, both teams were shooting 41% from the field, though Marist shot 33% from three compared to Monmouth's 14%.

  • Early in the fourth, a pair of Hand passes to Gilmer buckets gave Marist a 57-40 lead, their largest to that point.
  • The Red Foxes did not allow the Hawks to score a field goal for the first four minutes of the quarter, and led by as many as 19.
  • Marist closed out the game on a 7-0 run and swept the season series.
