POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday at the Tennessee State Winter Warm-Up Tournament. The Red Foxes fell to Portland State, 6-1, in their first game of the day, and to North Alabama, 9-0, in game two.
Marist is now 3-3 on the season.
- Portland State scored three times in the bottom of the first, and had five hits.
- Marist scored its lone run in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Ali Milam and freshman Kaley Coltrain had back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning.
- Kaela Morrow's sacrifice fly extended the Vikings' lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
- An RBI single by Ariana Abalos, followed by an RBI double by Darian Lindsey, gave Portland State a 5-1 lead in the fifth and closed out the scoring.
- Milam and Coltrain had two hits apiece.
- Jessica Flanagan went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored for the Vikings.
- Haley Schimmel earned the win, and allowed one run in five-plus two innings. Katie Schroeder finished with two scoreless innings of relief.
- The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth, when North Alabama struck for six runs on six hits, including a three-run double by Veronica Westfall.
- North Alabama scored three more runs in the seventh thanks to two hits and three walks. Mackenzie Roberts had a two-run single.
- Roberts and Westfall each drove in three runs. Roberts went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
- Michelle Moore (2-0) pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the win.
- Senior Kallen Leeseberg struck out four and allowed two hits and zero runs in 2.1 innings of relief.
- Five Red Foxes had one hit apiece.
Marist's Sunday game against Portland State was canceled due to expected inclement weather. The Red Foxes will now return to action at next weekend's Charleston Invitational, where they will play five games in three days starting with contests against North Carolina State (10 a.m.) and Bryant (2:30 p.m.) on Friday, March 8.
