MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina - The Marist softball team split on day one of the Charleston Invitational on Friday. The Red Foxes fell to North Carolina State, 3-0, in the early game, but triumphed over Bryant, 3-1 in nine innings, later on.                       Â

Senior Kallen Leeseberg tossed a complete game one-hitter, striking out five and allowing three unearned runs. Leeseberg held the Wolfpack without a hit for 5.2 innings.

Sophomore Caroline Baratta (single) and freshman Kaley Coltrain (double) had the two Marist hits.

N.C. State's Natalie Jones had Wolfpack's only hit, an RBI triple in the bottom of the 6th.

Freshman Calista Phippen tossed a complete game, striking out 16 batters and allowing three hits. Phippen allowed just one unearned run in the ninth inning.

Senior Casey Page led the Red Foxes with three hits, while Baratta, freshman Morgan Gianelle, and senior Madison Lee added two hits apiece.

Sophomore Olivia Knopf broke a scoreless tie in the top of the ninth with an RBI single to center to drive in fellow sophomore Hunter Hand. Junior Ali Milam had a clutch two-RBI double later in the inning.

Bryant's Gabrielle Ermish also tossed a complete game, allowing 12 hits and three runs (two earned). She struck out two and walked two.                       Â

Phippen's 16-strikeout total tied for the fifth most strikeouts in a single game in the NCAA this season.Â

Baratta was 3-for-7 with a stolen base on the day.                       Â
The Red Foxes are back in action with two games tomorrow. They play the University of Rhode Island at 11:15 a.m. and the College of Charleston at 3:45 p.m.
