LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes won two of three games at North Carolina A&T to take the weekend series. Then on Tuesday, Marist dropped a game to St. John's, 3-7.
  • Sophomore Alex Pansini tossed the first complete game of his career in Sunday's 7-1 victory. He struck out a career-high eight batters, scattered six hits and allowed just one run in nine innings.
  • Reece Armitage has been reliable on offense all year, and has recorded at least one hit in the past eight games. He's recorded an RBI in three out of the last four games as well.
GREGOIRE: HOME RUN LEADER
In Sunday's victory over North Carolina A&T, senior Frankie Gregoire tallied a season-high four RBI and hit the 26th home run of his career. With that long ball, Gregoire surpassed Keith Brachold (2002-05) for the most homers in Marist program history.

"The record is something I have been chasing since my freshman year and it's an unbelievable feeling to finally accomplish it" said Gregoire on becoming the program-leader. "Coach Tracz and Pelletier have been extremely helpful since the day I got to Campus. They have granted me a lot of freedom in terms of my swing and my routine, but have also given me useful advice that has allowed me to be where I am today."

The senior leads the team with two home runs this season. He sits at ninth all-time in Marist history with 128 RBI, having recorded 11 this year.

"Breaking the record is awesome, but it was nice to get the series win. I'm excited to head into conference play while we still haven't played our best baseball yet."

SCOUTING RICHMOND
  • The Spiders opened the season with six straight wins, but are a .500 team since then. In that streak was a 7-1 victory over #17 Georgia Tech.
  • Richmond has played five games against MAAC opponents, going 2-2-1 against Rider, Quinnipiac and Monmouth.
  • Jordan Schulefand has been the Spider's leader at the plate, with a batting average of .357. Anthony Forte is the team leader in RBI (19) and home runs (3).
  • Tim Miller, Lowell Schipper and Brendan McGuigan are in the rotation for this weekend. McGuigan has struck out 25 in 18.0 innings pitched and has an impressive ERA of 2.50.
COACH'S OUTLOOK
"This is going to be a great opportunity to get on the field and learn about our team" noted head coach Chris Tracz. "We have been consistently inconsistent this year and getting our guys to connect, compete and communicate is a huge priority. Teams take time to find an identity and this weekend is a chance to grow in that respect."

UP NEXT
In the coming week, Marist has a weekday game at UMass-Lowell on Wednesday before beginning MAAC play at Fairfield on March 30-31.
