Marist Softball Sweeps Pacific

Red Foxes Prevail In Extra Innings In Game One, Erupt For 11 Runs In Game Two

STOCKTON, California – The Marist softball team swept a doubleheader at Pacific on Friday. The Red Foxes won the first game, 5-3 in eight innings, and recorded an 11-5 triumph in game two.
 
Game One - Marist 5, Pacific 3 (8 inn.)
  • After sophomore Caroline Baratta doubled to lead off the third, and junior Ali Milam drew a one-out walk, red-shirt sophomore Claire Oberdorf hit a three-run homer with two outs for the game's first runs.
  • In the bottom of the third, Caitlin Reynolds scored Pacific's first run on a throwing error.
  • Madison Kahwaty's homer in the fourth cut Marist's lead to 3-2.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Carly Lucchetti tripled to the right-center gap. With Pacific down to its last strike, Bailey Reed's single brought home Lucchetti and tied the game.
  • In the top of the eighth, senior Madison Lee came back from an 0-2 count to draw a bases-loaded walk, which forced home Milam with the go-ahead run. Freshman Alyssa Yarem's RBI single two hitters later brought home senior Brandi Coon.
  • Senior Megan Beiermeister (2-3) pitched her first complete game of the season. Beiermeister struck out three and allowed just two earned runs.
  • Baratta, Milam, and Oberdorf all finished with two hits apiece.
  • Reed (6-5) went all eight innings for Pacific, with six strikeouts.
 
Game Two - Marist 11, Pacific 6
  • Baratta scored the game's first run on an error in the top of the first.
  • The Red Foxes scored five runs in the third. Milam and Yarem had RBI doubles in the inning, while Lee and sophomore Hunter Hand had RBI singles.
  • Reed hit a solo homer for Pacific in the bottom of the third.
  • Marist answered with a four-run fourth. Oberdorf and freshman Morgan Gianelle both drew bases-loaded walks. Lee followed with a two-run double.
  • Bradi Kooyman's three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth cut Pacific's deficit to 10-4.
  • Coon scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, which expanded the Red Foxes' lead to 11-4.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Pacific scored two runs with two outs. Kahwaty hit a solo homer, and Madison Hopper had an RBI single.
  • Lee finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Coon scored three runs, while Baratta, Hand, and Oberdorf each came home twice.
  • Senior Brooke Peterson (2-3) picked up the win with four innings of relief.
 
Records
  • Marist is now 11-12. The Red Foxes have won three straight
  • Pacific stands at 14-15.
