Men's Lacrosse to Take on Detroit Mercy

The Red Foxes Look to Stay Unbeaten in MAAC Play

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's lacrosse team will host Detroit Mercy in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Saturday, March 30. The Red Foxes are undefeated in the MAAC so far this season, and are looking to make it three straight conference wins. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Red Foxes traveled to Manhattan College on Saturday, March 23, and defeated the Jaspers 6-5. Marist got out to a 6-2 lead with 9:25 remaining in the game, but Manhattan battled back and brought the score to within one with a little over two minutes remaining in the game. However, Jake MacGregor and the Red Fox defense stood tall, and was able to block Jake Nicolosi's attempt to tie the game as time expired. The defense was led by JT Roselle who had four ground balls and a caused turnover. Meanwhile, as a team, Marist was a perfect 14-14 on clears in the game.
 
SCOUTING DETROIT MERCY
The Titans are 5-3 so far this season, including a 2-1 MAAC record. All three of Detroit Mercy's losses this season have come on the road, while they are undefeated at home. Last time out, the Titans defeated the Monmouth hawks 6-4 on Saturday, March 23. Cam Kostus and Max Payton each had two goals in the victory. Seth Mendell has been the star on offense this season for Detroit Mercy, scoring a team-leading 21 goals. Matthew Vangalen leads the team with 31 points and 19 assists. Logan Shamblin has a 5-3 record as the goalie, with 94 saves on the season and a .495 save percentage.

DOMINATE DEFENSE
In the last three wins for Marist, the defense has held its opponents to on average 5.7 goals per game. For more on the success of the defense, click the attached video.

  • Marist fell to Detroit Mercy last season 14-10.
  • The Red Foxes are seeking their first 3-0 start in conference play since 2015.
  • Peyton Smith and Detroit Mercy's Alex Jarzembowski rank as two of the top face-off specialists in the nation. Smith's .678 win percentage ranks fourth in the nation while Jarzembowski's .618 ranks 14th.
  • The Red Foxes' scoring defense ranks 16th in the NCAA at 9.86 goals per game. The man down defense ranks 17th in the NCAA.
  • Three different players have double digits points on the season – Jake Weinman (15), Jojo Pirreca (15) and Joe Tierney (12).
