MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – The Marist softball team (4-6) dropped two games in the Charleston Invitational on Saturday. The Red Foxes fell to Rhode Island, 5-2, in their first game of the day, and dropped their second contest to College of Charleston by a score of 8-0 in six innings.
- Rhode Island broke a scoreless tie with a three-run top of the fifth. Leah Krivitsky had an RBI single, and Faith Musselwhite followed with a two-run double. All of the Rams' runs came with two outs.
- Krivitsky and Sami Villarreal both drew bases loaded walks with two outs in the sixth, which expanded Rhode Island's lead to 5-0.
- Junior Ali Milam's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth accounted for the Red Foxes' two runs.
- Becca Rogers (3-2) went the first six innings to earn the win for Rhode Island, and Julia Waraksy pitched a scoreless seventh for her first save.
- Senior center fielder Casey Page had two hits and a run scored for the Red Foxes.
- College of Charleston scored in the first inning on an error.
- Two-run doubles by Lexee Emanuel and Ginna Leaphart in the third and fourth innings, respectively, increased the home team's lead to 5-0.
- Three runs in the sixth inning enabled the Cougars to close the game early. Madi Brown's single brought home Yari Feliz with the game-ending run.
- Dayton Siegling (3-0) went all six innings to earn the win.
- Senior Brandi Coon had two of the Red Foxes' five hits.
Marist closes out play in the Charleston Invitational on Sunday, when the Red Foxes take on Youngstown State at 12:15 p.m.
