Marist Splits Doubleheader At Quinnipiac

Milam Goes 5-for-7 In Doubleheader; Phippen Wins 14th

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Marist softball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader at Quinnipiac on Wednesday. The Red Foxes won the first game by a score of 4-2, but fell in the second game, 6-0.
 
Game One - Marist 4, Quinnipiac 2
  • Marist struck first with two runs in the top of the third. Senior Brandi Coon's two-out single brought home classmate Casey Page. Coon then stole second, and scored on an error.
  • The Red Foxes added two more runs in the fourth. Junior Ali Milam's two-out, two-run double brought home both senior Madison Lee and sophomore Hunter Hand.
  • Quinnipiac cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run double by Lo Yarnall, but the Bobcats came no closer.
  • Milam finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Coon was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Freshman Calista Phippen (14-3) went the distance for her 12th complete game of the season. Phippen allowed only four hits and one walk, and struck out five.
 
Game Two - Quinnipiac 6, Marist 0
  • The game was scoreless until the Bobcats struck for five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Quinnipiac strung four consecutive base hits together, including a two-run double by Alexis Otero.
  • Otero's RBI single in the sixth accounted for the game's final run.
  • Lauren King went the distance on a five-hitter for Quinnipiac, and struck out three.
  • Milam went 2-for-3 in the game, and finished the day 5-for-7.
 
Records
  • Marist is now 24-19 overall, and 9-3 in the MAAC.
  • Quinnipiac is 14-27 overall, and 5-7 in conference play.
 
Up Next
  • Marist returns home to Gartland Field for a doubleheader against first-place Monmouth on Saturday, April 20.
  • First pitch of game one is set for noon.
