Marist Softball Splits Doubleheader With Hartford

Red Foxes Take Game One, Fall In Second Contest

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team split with a home non-conference doubleheader with Hartford on Wednesday. The Red Foxes won the first game, 3-1, but fell by a score of 4-2 in game two.

Game One - Marist 3, Hartford 1
  • Marist scored all of its runs in the second inning. Senior Brandi Coon, red-shirt junior Claire Oberdorf, and freshman Kaley Coltrain all singled on the first pitch of their respective at-bats. With one out, freshman Morgan Gianelle's two-run single on a fly ball down the right field line brought home Coon and Oberdorf. Sophomore Olivia Knopf followed with a sacrifice fly, which scored Coltrain.
  • In the top of the fourth, Dani Rocheleau led off with a double, and scored on a two-out single by Kylie Dazalla.
  • Three Marist pitchers combined to allow just five hits. Senior Brooke Peterson started and worked three scoreless innings. Senior Kallen Leeseberg worked the fourth and fifth, and earned the win. Senior Megan Beiermeister retired all six Hawks she faced in the sixth and seventh for the save.
  • Juilanna Kocenski pitched a complete game for Hartford, and allowed just five hits with three strikeouts.
