Men's Lacrosse Prevails Over Siena

The Red Foxes Stomp a Late Comeback for a Victory

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist stopped a Siena comeback in the fourth quarter and defeated the Saints 13-11 in front of an electric home crowd at Tenney Stadium. With the win, Marist improves to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the MAAC. Sienna drops to 5-4 and 3-2 in the conference.

SUMMARY
  • Evan Gagne opened up the game with a goal in the first minute of play. Despite not winning face-offs at all in the first quarter, Siena was able to make defensive stops and convert them to points. The Saints took a 3-1 lead with less than five minutes in the quarter. Michael Smith and Jake Weinman closed out the quarter with goals to tie it up.
  • Both teams traded goals throughout the second quarter with neither team able to take more than a two goal lead. James Lyons and Chris Schlappich scored to take a 8-6 lead with 3:24 left but Siena responded with a goal of its own to cut the deficit back down to one and the end of half.
  • Marist's offense and defense clicked in the third quarter, with the Red Foxes scoring five goals and holding the Saints to five shots. Peyton Smith won all seven face-offs during the quarter, limiting any offensive possession for Siena. Vito Musso's man-up goal put Marist up 13-8 to end the quarter.
  • Siena's defense locked Marist down in the fourth, helping force seven turnovers and limited the offense to four goals. The Saints scored three more goals to cut the deficit to 13-11 with 2:32 left in the game. Siena won the ensuing face-off but the Marist defense made enough stops to preserve the win.
