HADMEN, Connecticut - Marist men's lacrosse offense found its rhythm in second half and propelled the team to a 12-8 victory over Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes improve to 6-5 overall and are tied for first in the MAAC at 4-1.
- Jake Weinman and Michael Smith scored back to back goals to put Marist up 2-0 within the first six minutes of the game. Quinnipiac took advantage of a penalty on Jake MacGregor to make it a 2-1 game at the end of the quarter.
- Quinnipiac equalized in the second quarter but James Lyons quickly responded to retake the lead with 8:32 left in the half.
- Both defenses were lights out throughout the first half. The Marist defense held Quinnipiac to seven shots on goal while Nick Dimuccio had 11 saves.
- The Bobcats opened the second half with a 3-0 run to take their first lead of the day at 5-3. Led by two goals from James Lyons, Marist used a 4-0 run to reclaim the lead. Quinnipiac fired one in to cut Marist's lead to 7-6 at the end of the third quarter.
- The two teams exchanged goals to open the fourth quarter with Quinnipiac tying it up 8-8 with 11:29 remain. Andrew Evans took the following face-off and scored his first career goal, shifting the momentum to the Red Foxes. Jamison Embury scored to put the Red Foxes up 11-8 with 5:12 left in the game.
- Quinnipiac had some opportunities to come back and take advantage of Marist penalties, but the man down defense stood tall and made back to back saves.
- Lyons and Jojo Pirecca each had a hat trick. Michael Smith scored a goal and two assists.
- MacGregor finished the day with 17 saves and a .708 save percentage. He made seven of his saves during the fourth period.
- Quinnipiac outshot Marist 53 to 38 but Marist held the edge on shots on goal at 28-25.
- Marist had 14 turnovers but only turned the ball over once in the final quarter.
Marist will play its final regular season home game on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:00 PM against St. Bonaventure. Prior to the game, Marist will honor its seniors.
