Softball Takes Two At Lafayette

Red Foxes Win 30 For Third Time In Four Years

EASTON, Pennsylvania – The Marist softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Lafayette on Wednesday. The Red Foxes won by scores of 5-0 and 8-2.
 
Game One - Marist 5, Lafayette 0
  • A two-run homer by red-shirt junior Claire Oberdorf got Marist on the scoreboard in the top of the second.
  • In the third, sophomore Caroline Baratta's RBI double brought home freshman Hailee Jantorno. Baratta then scored on a groundout by junior Ali Milam.
  • Freshman Kaley Coltrain homered in the sixth to close out the scoring.
  • Freshman Calista Phippen improved to 17-3. Phippen struck out seven and gave up just two hits in four innings. Sophomore Nicole Teague followed with three hitless innings of relief for her first save of the season.
  • Baratta, Coltrain, and senior Brandi Coon finished two hits apiece.
  • For Lafayette, Stacy Gordon pitched a complete game with five strikeouts. Natasha Miner went 2-for-3.
 
Game Two - Marist 8, Lafayette 2
  • Coltrain's RBI single brought home Oberdorf with the game's first run in the second.
  • Marist broke the game open with a five-run third. Jantorno scored on an error, and then Oberdorf was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Coltrain followed with a two-run single, and freshman Alyssa Yarem brought home Oberdorf on a groundout.
  • Maddie Wensel's RBI double in the fourth cut Marist's lead to 6-1, but Milam answered with a solo homer in the fifth.
  • Miner added an RBI single in the fifth, but Marist closed out the scoring in the seventh on an RBI single by Yarem.
  • Senior Megan Beiermeister (7-4) went the first four innings for the win, and senior Kallen Leeseberg pitched the final three for her first save of the season.
  • Coltrain finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
 
Notes
  • Over the last four years, the Red Foxes have now won 139 games, making the Class of 2019 the winningest in program history.
  • Marist has won 30 games in three of the last four seasons.
  • Marist now has seven 30-win seasons in program history, four of which have occurred under the leadership of head coach Joe Ausanio.

  • Marist closes out the regular season with a trip to western New York.
  • The Red Foxes will play doubleheaders at Canisius (Saturday, 10 a.m.) and then Niagara (Sunday, 11 a.m.).
