DOVER, Delaware – Sophomore forward
Victoria Colatosti exploded for a career-high five points, four Red Foxes found the back of the net, and junior
Abigail Renaud teamed with sophomore
Natalie Kelchner for a shutout in goal as Marist dismantled Delaware State 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Red Foxes' second shutout of the year lifts them to 2-1, while the Hornets drop to 0-4.
- Sophomore forward Kaylin Sperley ignited the scoring in the 22nd minute, collecting a cross from junior forward Jillian Colucci and depositing a point-blank shot.
- With 6:05 to play until halftime, sophomore midfielder Abby Murphy rocketed home her second-career goal on a free kick.
- About nine minutes out of the break, redshirt sophomore Kristen Prevosto linked up with Colatosti, and the former sent one to the right of Hornets netminder Franchesska Ramirez and into the nylon.
- Colatosti completed the brace less than 10 minutes later with a strike from 35 yards out on the left side.
- In the 70th minute, Colatosti placed a 25-yard cross up close, and sophomore forward Chiara Di Palma converted the pass to make it 5-0.
Â
- Marist controlled in shots 16-3.
- The Red Foxes totaled six corner kicks in the first half and eight in 90 minutes.
- Colatosti paced the team with four shots, three of them on goal.
- Five other Red Foxes recorded multiple shots.
- Renaud and Kelchner each made one save.
- Twenty-one Red Foxes saw action on the day.
Â
- Five goals are the largest margin of victory for Marist since a 7-1 triumph on September 21, 2016, also at Delaware State.
- At the time of writing, the five goals are the most scored by a MAAC team in the young season.
- Colatosti set career-bests for goals and points in a game, as well as points in a season. She's the first Red Fox to notch five points in a game since Camille Bowen and Keri Bradley notched seven and six points, respectively, in the aforementioned game in 2016.
- Di Palma picked up her first goal in a Red Fox uniform.
- Colatosti and Prevosto added their first-career assists, with Prevosto collecting two helpers on the afternoon.
- Marist has won their third game of the season for three years in a row.
Â
The Red Foxes wrap up their four-game road swing on Thursday, September 5, facing New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
