Men's Soccer Suffers Setback Against Albany

Jacob Schulman Scores First Career Goal in Final Minutes

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist men's soccer (2-3) suffered their first loss at home to Albany (2-3-1)  by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday night. Despite holding the advantage in shots once again, the Red Foxes could not score until the final minutes of the game when Jacob Schulman found the back of the net to bring the game within one.
 
SUMMARY
  • The game was tightly contested for most of the first half, with neither team conceding until the 34th minute. Albany's Kaio DaSilva capitalized on a brief opportunity in front of the net to give the Great Danes the lead.
  • Despite the goal, Marist had an advantage in shots 7-6 and shots on goal 3-2 for the half
  • After the break, the Red Foxes came out determined and launched six shots before the Great Danes could respond. But despite close opportunities, none were able to reach the breach Albany's defenses.
  • Albany's Austin DaSilva scored in the 81st minute on a pass from teammate Niklas Roessler to extend the lead over the Red Foxes.
  • With just a minute to go, Jacob Schulman shook his defender from 25 yards out and fired a shot into the upper 90 of the goal to close the gap against the Great Danes and put Marist on the board.
  • Joao Avila had a close opportunity before the clock ran out, but Albany's Isac Hjerten stopped the shot and the Great Danes escaped with the win.
STATS
  • Marist led in shots 17-12, shots on goal 7-5 and corner kicks 11-3. They also drew fouls for 11 dead ball situations while limiting Albany to seven.
  • Skylar Conway tallied five shots with one on goal.
  • Samuel Ilin made three saves in the net.
NOTES
  • Jacob Schulman's goal was the first of his career. He is the fifth Red Fox to score this season.
  • Marist has held the advantage in shots for all five games this season, outshooting opponents 88-47.
