POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist volleyball team dropped its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match of the season on Friday night, falling to the Fairfield Stags 3-0. Â
With the loss, the Red Foxes fall to 2-8 (0-1 MAAC) on the year, while the Stags improve to 6-4 (1-0 MAAC).

- The first set was tightly contested through the first half of play. Marist took a 15-13 lead into the first media timeout, but the Stags used a 8-3 run to take a 21-18 lead. The Red Foxes couldn't fight back, and dropped the set 25-18.
- The second set began much like the first set, with the Red Foxes taking a 15-14 lead into the media timeout. Marist extended that lead to 24-22 right before a Fairfield timeout. Out of the timeout, the Stags rallied to score four straight points and win the set 26-24.
- Fairfield took a 15-14 lead into the third media timeout after another tightly contested first half of a set. The Stags were able to fight off every Marist run from that point on, and went on to win the set 25-21.

- Nikki DeSerpa tallied a match-high 12 kills, and added two service aces and two digs.
- Sophia Theriot had a match-high 15 digs and also added one assist.
- Mayda Garcia led Fairfield with eight kills on a .438 hitting percentage.
- Fairfield had 13 total blocks, while Marist had just four.
- The Red Foxes had the advantage in digs, 38-37.

- DeSerpa's 12 kills were good for a season-high.
- Gabby Murray totaled 10 kills in the match, beating her career-high by three kills.

The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, September 22 against the Quinnipiac Bobcats. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
