Men's Soccer Hosts Hofstra

Red Foxes Ready for Non-Conference Finale

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist men's soccer (2-4) is set to face Long Island rivals Hofstra (4-3, 2-1 CAA) on Wednesday, September 25 at 7 p.m. The Red Foxes are coming off of a tightly contested double-overtime loss to #18 New Hampshire, while the Pride picked up their second conference win over Elon this past weekend.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Marist battled #18 New Hampshire for 106 minutes on Saturday, but eventually gave up the golden goal in double overtime.
  • Junior Justin Jaime scored in the 46th minute to tie the game, which was just the fourth goal allowed by the Wildcats this season.
  • Samuel Ilin made five saves in the net against the nationally-ranked power, his career-high as a Red Fox.
AND IN THE RED CORNER...
  • Marist leads the MAAC in corner kicks with 42 total and seven per game.
  • The Red Foxes rank 13th nationally in corner kicks as of September 24.
A BALANCED OFFENSE
  • Every goal scored by Marist this season has been shot by a different player.
  • With Jaime's goal at New Hampshire, he joined Samad Bounthong, Christian Curti, Marcus Ginman, Michael Lorello and Jacob Schulman as the scoring Red Foxes.
  • Allen Gavilanes leads the team with two assists, and is ranked ninth in the nation with 4.33 shots per game.
  • Marist has outshot the opponent in five of six games this season, and holds and total-shot advantage of 95-66 over the opposition.
SCOUTING THE PRIDE
  • Hofstra is 2-1 in their last three games, scoring three goals each in their wins over CAA opponents Charleston and Elon.
  • Peter Soelberg and Frederik Rieper have tallied a team-high three goals each.
  • Adam Savill has recorded three assists and a goal for the Pride.
  • In seven games, Alex Ashton has 22 saves for a save percentage of 68.8 percent. He has a goals against average of 1.43.
HISTORY VS. HOFSTRA
  • Marist is 3-1 all-time against the Pride, winning the last two contests. The squads faced off annually from 2001-2004.
  • The Red Foxes scored at least three goals in all three wins, but lost 2-4 to Hofstra in 2002.
  • Current Assistant Coach Ricky Cusano was a member of the Marist squad from 2001-04 and scored against Hofstra in 2002.
RETURN OF THE MAAC!
Following the match with Hofstra, the Red Foxes kick off the conference season at Niagara on Wednesday, October 2. The game will begin at 4 p.m. in Niagara Falls, New York.
