POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's soccer team defeated Hofstra 3-1 at Tenney Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Allen Gavilanes all scored in the Red Foxes' dominant showing against the Pride.
- The game started off slowly, with each team taking just one shot in the first 15 minutes.
- The Pride outshot the Red Foxes 10-3 for the remainder of the half.
- In the 39th minute, junior Allen Gavilanes got fouled in the penalty box. Freshman Huib Achterkamp took the PK and converted it in the bottom-left corner, giving Marist a 1-0 lead.
- In the 59th minute, freshman Stefan Copetti rifled one past Hofstra's Alex Ashton off of a pass from Skylar Conway to double the lead.
- But just five minutes later, a Marist foul led to a penalty kick goal off the foot of Mathew Vowinkel to trim the deficit to 2-1.
- Gavilanes threaded the needle for a goal in a 75th minute to seal the win for the Red Foxes.
- For the remainder of the game, Marist tallied five more shots and did not allow Hofstra another opportunity.
- Goalkeeper Samuel Ilin set a career high with six saves, all coming in the first half.
- Gavilanes and Justin Jaime each recorded three shots to lead the offense.
- The Pride had the advantage in shots 15-11 and shots on goal 7-3, but all of Marist's shots on goal found the net.
- Achterkamp and Copetti's goals were the first of their careers as Red Foxes.
- Gavilanes' was the first of the season.
- Marist has scored nine goals in 2019, and all have come from different players.
The Red Foxes will travel to Niagara (2-6) for their first MAAC matchup of the season on Wednesday, October 2. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
