Swimming & Diving Adjusts Schedule, Will Take On SCSU Friday

Meanwhile, Gervasio & Aiken Head to the Navy Diving Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams hit the road again this weekend, although this time not the whole team is traveling together. Both swimming teams and the majority of the diving teams will be traveling to New Haven for a non-conference meet against the Southern Connecticut State Owls beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 17. Meanwhile, Esabelle Gervasio and Raislan Aiken will be traveling to Maryland for the Navy Diving Invitational beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, January 17, and continuing into Saturday, January 18.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The men's swimming & diving toppled non-conference foe Binghamton by a score of 195-103 on Friday, January 10. This was the third straight dual meet victory for the men's team, who remains undefeated in dual meets over the past two months.
  • The women's swimming & diving team also competed against the Bearcats on Friday, January 10, but was defeated 170-129. This was the first loss for the women's team in a dual meet competition in over two months. Ā 
  • Michael O'DonovanĀ set the tone early for the men, picking up a victory in the first individual event of the day. He clocked in at 9:57.37 in the 100-yard freestyle.
  • Adam KapustaĀ was the star of the meet, finishing in first place in three events for a total of 27 points. To start the day, he notched a first-place victory in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:43.83. He then went on to win the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.41) and 200-yard back (1:53.17).
  • Raislan AikenĀ continued his run of dominating the diving events, placing first in both the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive. He had 282.90 points in the 1-meter, and 269.29 in the 3-meter to lead the pack.
  • Esabelle Gervasio had her best meet to the date. She had a personal record 305.03 points in the 3-meter dive, securing first place by over 60 points. She also took first place in the 1-meter five, totaling 272.40 points.
  • Juliet NowakĀ was the highlight of the meet for the women's swim team. She placed first in the 100-yard back with a time of 59.87. She also took first in the 200-yard back with a time of 2:10.11.

RECENT HARDWARE
  • The Red Foxes captured three of the four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekly awards for the week of January 15.
  • GervasioĀ and Aiken won MAAC Diver of the Week awards, while KapustaĀ earned MAAC Swimmer of the Week honors.
  • For Gervasio, this is now her fifth weekly award of the season.
  • This has the second time this season Aiken has been recognized for his stellar performance in a single week.
  • Kapusta rounds out the trio by claiming his first MAAC weekly award of the season. Kapusta is now the first men's swimmer to win a weekly award this season.
  • Now a member of all four teams (men's and women's swimming and diving) have secured a weekly award this season.
  • This is also the first time this season that three different Red Fox swimmers and divers have claimed a MAAC weekly award in the same week.

SCOUTING SCSU
SCSU's men's team is 2-3 so far this season. After losing three meets in a row, the Owls are coming into Friday's meet against Marist off a 160-115 victory over Le Moyne. Evan Bombery is a name to watch for SCSU, as he dominated the 1000-yard free style in its meet, placing first with a time of 10:32.75.

SCSU's women's team is 3-3 overall on the year, and 3-1 in its own pool. The Owls have won two dual meets in a row heading into Friday's competition, most recently defeating Le Moyne 148-122 in their last meet. A name to watch for SCSU is Avery Fornaciari, who absolutely dominated the 200-yard butterfly as well as the 200-yard freestyle in its last meet.

DIVING INVITATIONAL
Gervasio and Aiken will be participating in the Navy Diving Invitational over the weekend. The pair are having what might be the best season of any pair of divers in the entire conference. They will look to put their skills to the test in a competition filled with talented divers in Maryland over the weekend. @MaristSwimDive will provide updates as available, and you can check in to goredfoxes.com for scores and a recap.

UP NEXT
The Red Foxes return to Poughkeepsie for their final home meet of the 2019-20 season on Saturday, January 25. Marist will host Bryant beginning at 11 a.m. This meet will also serve as senior day for all four Marist teams.
