POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -Â In a game featuring the top two teams in the MAAC in terms of overall records and two top-15 teams in the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, Marist fell to Rider 76-72 in overtime on Thursday evening at McCann Arena.
The Red Foxes' winning streak ends at six games as they dropped to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in MAAC play. The Broncs capture their eighth win in a row to improve to 4-0 in the conference and 11-2 overall.
With the score 64-62 in favor of Rider with nine seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, redshirt senior captain
Alana Gilmer cut to the basket and coverted the layup while drawing a foul. She hit the free throw to give Marist the 65-64 lead. Stella Johnson, the nation's leading scorer, went 1-2 from the line to send the game to extra frames.
As the clock struck 3:31 in overtime, junior guard
Allie Best drew a foul on Johnson, who had to leave the game with her fifth foul. Best sank the two foul shots to put the Red and White up 69-67.
However, Rider held Marist to zero field goals in the final 4:24, going on a 7-0 run to end the ballgame.
Gilmer led the offense with 21 points and four rebounds, while redshirt senior captain
Grace Vander Weide contributed 16 points, eight rebounds and a team-leading eight assists.Â
Johnson posted a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Lea Favre had 24 points for Rider.

- The Broncs kept the Red Foxes off the scoreboard in the first 3:04 until sophomore guard Sarah Barcello drilled a three-pointer in the right corner.
- Vander Weide buried a three to tie the game at eight, but Rider went on a 9-0 run over 3:22 and led 17-10 at the end of the first.
- Stella Johnson was blocked on multiple occasions by Gilmer and junior forward Willow Duffell, the latter coming with 6:29 left in the second.
- Marist got to within on with an 8-0 run through the middle of the stanza, but a three-quarters court buzzer-beater from Amanda Mobley capped a brief Rider run to give the visitors a 36-29 lead at halftime.
- Marist bolted out of the break, as Duffell nailed a jumper for Marist's first lead, 40-38, with 6:32 on the clock.
- A Barcello three and a Gilmer basket extended the edge to five for the Red Foxes on separate occasions, their largest lead of the contest.
- Senior captain Rebekah Hand sank a corner three and a left-handed layup to give Marist multiple advantages; the latter bucket made it 58-57 with 7:22 remaining in the fourth.
- Rider pulled ahead 62-60, but Barcello answered with a second-chance layup from the right block to tie it at 62 as the clock read 3:25.
- The Broncs' run to end the game started when Mobley hit a 40-foot three-pointer as the shot clock expired to knot the game at 70 with 59 seconds to go.

- One game after establishing a career-high in assists, Duffell set a new best with 13 rebounds to lead the team.
