Marist Men’s Tennis Adds Two For 2020

Gabriel Castillo And Carlos Vasquez To Join Red Foxes Next Season

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – While the current Marist Men's Tennis team trains for the upcoming spring season, Marist Director of Tennis Gary Sussman has announced the additions of Gabe Castillo and Carlos Vasquez for the following year, the program announced on Tuesday.
 
"We are very excited to welcome Gabe and Carlos to our team and our Red Fox Family," mentioned Sussman. "Gabe, who hails from Washingtonville, NY via Miami, is the top player in Section IX, while Carlos is a tenacious left-hander from Demarest, NJ. The team will graduate its top two players, but we feel that Gabe has the talent to make an immediate impact at the top of the lineup, while Carlos will add to our depth and battle for a spot in the rotation."
 
GABRIEL CASTILLO
  • Castillo is a two-time Section IX singles champion and two-time New York State singles quarterfinalist for Washingtonville High School.
  • He is ranked 25th in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Eastern region in the below-18s and under division, and 275th in the nation in the same category.
  • Throughout the past two years, Castillo has competed in the USTA National Hard Court Championships (2018 and 2019) and USTA National Clay Court Championships (2019).
  • TennisRecruiting.net lists him as a four-star recruit.
  • His brother, Sebastian, is a senior on the men's tennis team at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
CARLOS VASQUEZ
  • Vasquez is a three-star recruit on TennisRecruiting.net.
  • He is a four-year varsity captain at Northern Valley Demarest High School.
  • Throughout his career, Vasquez has ranked as high as fifth in the state of New Jersey, and 185th in the nation.
  • Outside of the court, he is a member of the National Honor Society.
 
Both players will begin their collegiate careers in the fall of 2020.
