Marist Completes Sweep, Topples Manhattan In OT

Enoh Notches Double-Double, Sets Career Highs For Points & Rebounds

RIVERDALE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team completed a weekend sweep of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Manhattan on Sunday with a 72-67 overtime triumph at Draddy Gymnasium.

Summary
  • Manhattan scored the game's first five points, but the Red Foxes then answered with five straight of their own.
  • For the next 12:30, neither team led by more than three until a 7-0 run by Manhattan put the Jaspers ahead 27-22 at the 4:04 mark.
  • Manhattan took a 35-30 halftime lead.
  • Marist started the second half on a 7-0 run in the first 1:57 to go back in front.
  • For the rest of regulation, neither team led by more than four. Marist's largest second-half lead came on a put-back by Victor Enoh with 12:01 to go, which gave the Red Foxes a 41-37 advantage. Manhattan responded with a 12-4 spurt, which gave the Jaspers a 49-45 lead with 6:50 remaining.
  • With 2:31 to play, a three-pointer by Jason Douglas-Stanley gave Manhattan a 58-55 lead. Neither team scored again until Ricardo Wright tied the game on a straightaway three with 30 seconds left. Manhattan did not score on its final possession, and the game went to overtime.
  • Marist used a 7-0 run in overtime to grab the lead for good, a stretch that included five more points from Wright.

Stats
  • Enoh had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
  • Wright led Marist with 18 points. In addition to his game-tying three-pointer, he scored eight of the Red Foxes' 14 points in overtime.
  • Raheim Sullivan gave the Red Foxes three double-digit scorers with 13 points. Sullivan went 5-for-5 from three-throw line, committed just one turnover in 35:51, and the Red Foxes were plus-11 with him on the floor. Sullivan was tied with Matt Herasme for the team-high in plus-minus.
  • Marist shot 32-for-40 (.800) from the free-throw line. Manhattan was 13-for-17 (.765).
  • There were 17 ties and 11 lead changes. The game's biggest lead for either side was the Red Foxes' six-point edge in overtime.
  • Manhattan's Ant Nelson was the game's leading scorer with 23 points, followed by Douglas-Stanley with 19.

Notes
  • The Red Foxes' 5-1 start after six games is their best since the 1998-99 season.
  • Marist's 3-1 MAAC start is its best since the 2007-08 season.
  • Marist is 4-0 this season in games decided by five points or less, and 2-0 in overtime games. The Red Foxes have now played nine overtime games in head coach John Dunne's three-year tenure (4-5 record).
  • Enoh set career highs for points and rebounds as he recorded his first career double-double. His 15 rebounds were the most by a Red Fox since Brian Parker had 15 at Delaware exactly four years ago to the day.
  • This is the fourth time in Marist's 24 years in the MAAC that the Red Foxes have swept Manhattan.
  • Marist is 3-0 on the second day of back-to-back games this season.

Play of the Game
From Coach Dunne
"I thought it was a great team win, a grind-it-out win on the road that the guys should be proud of," Marist head coach John Dunne said. "The other thing I'm happy about is different guys stepped up today from yesterday. I think we have a long way to go as a unit, but the fact that we had different guys step up in game two shows a lot about our team and our potential down the road."

Records
  • Marist now stands at 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the MAAC.
  • Manhattan is 1-3 overall and in MAAC play.

Up Next
  • Marist is scheduled to return to action with a two-game series against Quinnipiac on Friday, Jan. 1 and Saturday, Jan. 2.
  • Tip-off for both games will be at 5 p.m., and both games will be carried on either ESPN3 or ESPN+.
