Marist Completes Weekend Sweep of Binghamton

Red Foxes Off To Best Start In 19 Years

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team defeated Binghamton by a score of 64-60 on Sunday in its home opener at McCann Arena, as the Red Foxes completed a weekend sweep of the Bearcats.
 
Summary
  • Raheim Sullivan opened the scoring with a jumper for Marist at the 18:22 mark, but Binghamton answered with six straight points.
  • A three-pointer by the Bearcats' Brenton Mills gave Binghamton its largest lead of the first half, a 22-16 advantage at the 6:59 mark.
  • The Red Foxes immediately answered with a 10-0 run, with all points coming from Marist newcomers – five from Sullivan, a three from Javon Cooley, and a jumper by Hakim Byrd.
  • Sullivan's jumper at the 1:39 mark put Marist back in front, 30-28, and accounted for the final points of the first 20 minutes.

  • Sullivan led three Red Foxes in double digits with 13 points, followed by Jordan Jones with 12 and Ricardo Wright with 11.
  • In addition to his 12 points, Jones tied for the team with six rebounds (along with Braden Bell), and blocked three shots.
  • Binghamton committed 16 turnovers, while Marist had just nine.
  • Mills led all scorers with 19 for the Bearcats, and Binghamton's Dan Petcash had a game-high 11 rebounds.

  • This is Marist's first 2-0 start since the 2001-02 season, when the Red Foxes started 3-0.
  • In overtime and the final 30 seconds of regulation, Marist went 10-for-10 from the line in the two games this weekend.
  • Marist led for 67:21 of the 85 minutes played this weekend.
  • Marist is now 2-2 all-time against Binghamton.

"I'm really proud of the guys," head coach John Dunne said. "The first half, I thought Binghamton brought great intensity traveling down here, and I tried to raise the intensity on the bench a little bit. The second half, I thought our intensity was a lot better."
