NASHVILLE, Tennessee – The Marist softball team split two games against Green Bay as it opened its season on Saturday at the Bruin Challenge, hosted by Belmont.
The Red Foxes fell to the Phoenix, 1-0, in their first game of the day before rebounding for a 7-0 victory in game two.
- The game's lone run came in the top of the third, when Tiffany Giese's one-out single brought home Samantha Soley.
- Marist left 10 runners on base, and left the bases loaded in the third and fourth innings.
- Calista Phippen pitched a three-hitter and struck out seven for the Red Foxes.
- Green Bay's Kayla Schwebke went the distance with five strikeouts. She scattered three hits and five walks.
- Marist struck early with three runs in the first. The Red Foxes added single runs in the second and third, and two more in the fourth.
- Kaley Coltrain went 4-for-4 with a two-run single and a double.
- Shea Walsh went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three stolen bases.
- Hannah Brock went 1-for-2 and stole two bases.
- Kiley Myers tossed a four-hitter with three strikeouts. Myers needed just 77 pitches for her complete game, and threw 57 strikes.
- Greta Thompson pitched 6.2 innings for Green Bay, with four strikeouts.
- Marist is 1-1.
- Green Bay is now 2-5.
- Marist closes out play in the Bruin Challenge with two games on Sunday.
- The Red Foxes start the day against Northern Kentucky (12:30 p.m. Eastern), and conclude it against Belmont (3 p.m.).
