Marist Falls To Monmouth In Fifth OT Game This Season

Sagl Leads Red Foxes With 16 Points

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team was defeated by Monmouth by a score of 65-61 in overtime on Friday night at McCann Arena.
 
This was Marist's fifth overtime game of the season, which set a program record.
 
Summary
  • Three-pointers on three consecutive possessions – two by Braden Bell, one by Tyler Sagl – gave Marist a 15-10 lead at the 11:57 mark. It was the largest lead either team held in the first 20 minutes.
  • Monmouth held Marist off the scoreboard for the final 4:16 of the first half, and took a 23-22 lead to the locker room.
  • A 12-0 Monmouth run gave the Hawks their largest lead of the game at 45-33 at the 9:44 mark of the second half.
  • With 4:45 to play, a Jordan Jones basket gave Marist a 52-51 lead and capped a 9-0 run for the Red Foxes.
  • With 18 seconds remaining, a three-pointer by Matt Herasme gave Marist a 58-55 lead. On Monmouth's next possession, Ray Salnave drew a foul shooting a three-pointer, and hit all three free throws to tie the game. Marist did not score on the final possession of regulation, and the game went to overtime.
  • Marist never led in overtime. The Hawks held the Red Foxes off the scoreboard for the first 4:28 of the extra period.

  • Sagl led the Red Foxes with 16 points, as he drained five three-pointers. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
  • Matt Herasme added 15 points, and Braden Bell scored 12. Bell and Tobias Sjoberg tied for the team high with eight rebounds.
  • Marist shot 14-for-41 (.341) from three-point range, and 4-for-14 (.286) on two-pointers.
