WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The Marist softball team won a pair of games in the Seahawk Softball Challenge on Saturday. The Red Foxes defeated host UNC Wilmington, 5-1, in their first game of the day, and then topped Robert Morris, 3-1, in their second contest.

Freshmen and outstanding pitching led the way for the Red Foxes on Saturday. Against UNC Wilmington, freshman
Meghan Haff struck out 13 and tossed a two-hitter. Freshman
Hannah Brock drove in three, reached safely three times, and scored two runs.

Against Robert Morris, freshman
Shea Walsh delivered a clutch two-run homer, while sophomore
Calista Phippen struck out 14 and tossed a five-hitter.

Marist now stands at 6-7 on the season.

- Haff recorded four strikeouts in the bottom of the first.
- UNCW's Janel Gamache opened the scoring with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the second.
- Marist tied the game in the third when Brock reached on a walk, and later scored on an error.
- Brock's three-run triple in the fourth brought home Ali Milam, Hunter Hand, and Shea Walsh. This gave the Red Foxes the lead for good.
- Brock scored Marist's final run in the seventh on a single by Caroline Baratta.
- Rylee Pate pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts for UNCW.

- Marist had the bases loaded with no outs in the second, but did not score.
- Natalie Higgins' solo homer gave Robert Morris a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
- The Red Foxes tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Brock reached on an error, and scored on another error as Alyssa Yarem was credited with an RBI.
- With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Walsh hit her first collegiate home run, a two-run shot which gave the Red Foxes a 3-1 advantage.
- Phippen threw 97 pitches, 73 of which went for strikes.

- Marist closed out play in the Seahawk Softball Challenge on Sunday morning against Toledo. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
- The teams met Friday morning, with the Rockets prevailing by a score of 4-1.
