Women’s Basketball Faces Monmouth In MAAC Quarterfinals

Marist Begins Quest For 11th MAAC Title

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – With a share of its conference-leading 12th MAAC regular season title in hand, second-seeded Marist opens its bid for the program's 11th MAAC Championship title with a quarterfinal bout vs. No. 10 Monmouth in the 2020 Hercules Ties MAAC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships on Wednesday, March 11. Tipoff from Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall is set for 3:30 p.m.

MARIST AT MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
  • All-time, Marist is 40-11 in the MAAC Tournament.
  • The Red Foxes have reached the MAAC Championship Final in every season they have earned a two seed (2004, 2014, 2015, 2018).
  • This is the 16th season in Brian Giorgis' 18 campaigns Marist has earned a top-three seed.
 
ALL-MAAC HONORS
  • The conference revealed the 2019-20 All-MAAC Teams on Monday morning.
  • Rebekah Hand and Alana Gilmer were unanimously voted to the All-MAAC First Team, while Grace Vander Weide earned a spot on the All-MAAC Second Team.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS
  • Monmouth upset No. 7 Iona 69-60 in the opening round on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Sierra Green drained six three-pointers for a game-high 26 points to lead the Hawks.
  • Akilah Jennings and Rosa Graham had 15 and 12 points, respectively.
  • The Hawks outscored the Gaels 37-18 in the second and third quarters.
 
POSTSEASON SERIES HISTORY
  • This is the first time that Marist and Monmouth will meet in the MAAC Championships.
 
DURING THE SEASON
  • Marist swept the regular season series against Monmouth.
  • At McCann Arena in the Red Foxes' conference lidlifter, Alana Gilmer went for 27 points, while Grace Vander Weide tallied 15 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in a 76-66 victory for the Red and White.
  • Down at the Jersey Shore on January 25, Marist outscored Monmouth 44-23 in the second half for a 74-53 triumph. The Red Foxes shot 12-23 from beyond the arc and had four players reach double figures, led by Gilmer's 16 points.
  • Marist has won seven games in a row over Monmouth, and leads the all-time series 26-20.
 
WITH A WIN...
  • Marist would advance to its 16th MAAC Semifinal in program history, all under Brian Giorgis.
  • In that instance, Marist would play the winner of No. 3 Fairfield and No. 6 Siena, who play on Thursday, March 12 at Noon.
