LUBBOCK, Texas – The Marist softball team went 1-1 on Saturday at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic.
After trailing by four against Delaware State,
Claire Oberdorf drove in all five runs as the Red Foxes came back for a 5-4 triumph in nine innings. In its second game of the day, Marist came back to tie the game against Texas Tech in the top of the seventh, but fell 2-1 in nine innings.
Caroline Baratta went 5-for-9 on the day. Marist is now 9-9 on the season.
- Delaware State got on the scoreboard first with a four-run top of the fourth. Alaena Selden delivered a two-run double in the frame.
- Oberdorf's three-run homer in the fifth cut Marist's deficit to one.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Baratta doubled with one out. She scored on Oberdorf's game-tying, two-out single.
- Marist loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, and won the game on Oberdorf's single, which brought home Sam Freeland.
- Oberdorf finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs.
- The top four hitters in the Marist order combined for 10 of the team's 11 hits. In addition to Oberdorf, Baratta had three hits, while Shea Walsh and Ali Milam had two apiece.
- Kiley Myers allowed just one hit in five scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Myers struck out five.
- Selden finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored for Delaware State.
- Texas Tech scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third, as Yvonne Whaley's RBI single brought home Miranda Padilla.
- The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Red Raiders until the top of the seventh. With the Red Foxes again down to their final out, Baratta's single brought home Walsh with the game-tying run.
- Whaley's double with one out in the ninth brought Heaven Burton home from first with the game-winning run.
- Meghan Haff went all 8.1 innings for the Red Foxes, and struck out five. She allowed just four hits and one walk.
- Baratta and Freeland led Marist with two hits apiece.
- Whaley finished 3-for-4, and had both of Texas Tech's RBIs.
- Erin Edmoundson struck out three and pitched two hitless innings of relief for the win.
- Marist closes out tournament play with two games on Sunday.
- The Red Foxes will face Fairleigh Dickinson at 2:30 p.m. Eastern, followed by Delaware State afterward at approximately 5 p.m.
