Student-Athletes With Highest Cumulative GPAs Honored

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – This year's winners of the President's Academic Achievement Award are Ellie Petraccione (women's lacrosse) and Michael Lorello (men's soccer).
 
The President's Academic Achievement Award was first awarded in 1994, and has been presented annually since 1996. It is presented annually is given annually to the male and female student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average.
 
Here are some facts on both winners:
 
ELLIE PETRACCIONE - WOMEN'S LACROSSE
  • Environmental Science/Policy major
  • Second consecutive year a women's lacrosse student-athlete has captured the honor, following current assistant coach Hailey Wagner.
  • It is the fourth time in the award's history that it has been won by a women's lacrosse student-athlete.
  • Has been named to the Dean's List in all seven of her previous semesters on campus.
  • Three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection.
  • Named to the ECAC President's Honor Roll in 2018.
  • Named MAAC Student-Athlete of the Week on April 15, 2020.
  • Also a finalist for the Strength & Conditioning and Pizzani Awards.


 
MICHAEL LORELLO - MEN'S SOCCER
  • Business Administration major
  • Becomes first men's soccer player to capture the honor since Jae Wong in 2017.
  • A men's soccer student-athlete has now won the award five times in the last 12 years, and seven times overall.
  • Has been named to the Dean's List in all seven of his previous semesters on campus.
  • Named CoSIDA Academic All-District each of the last two years.
  • Three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection.
  • Named MAAC Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 10, 2018.
  • Also a finalist for the Strength & Conditioning and Pizzani Awards.

 
 
UP NEXT

On Tuesday, the Team Strength & Conditioning Award winners will be announced at noon, followed by the Advantage Individual Strength & Conditioning Award winners at 2 p.m.
