MAAC 40th Anniversary: Men’s Basketball

A Look Back At Red Foxes’ Best In MAAC Era

Editor's Note: The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference is celebrating its 40th anniversary season in 2020-21. Throughout this summer, the conference will be announcing all-anniversary teams for each sport it currently sponsors. In conjunction, the Marist Athletics Department will highlight its achievements from the MAAC era. The series begins today with men's basketball.

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men's basketball joined the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for competition in the 1997-98 season. Here is a look at the Red Foxes' best from their 23 years in the conference.

NBA Draft Choice
Jared Jordan became Marist's second NBA draft selection in program history when he was chosen in the second round (45th overall pick) by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2007. Jordan has gone on to enjoy a distinguished professional career, primarily overseas. He is the all-time assists leader in Germany's Basketball Bundesliga.

Jordan led all of Division I men's basketball in assists as both a junior and a senior, becoming the first player to lead the nation in that category two straight years since Avery Johnson 20 years earlier. He was named MAAC Player of the Year in 2007 as he led the Red Foxes to their first outright MAAC regular-season title, a school record for wins in a season (25), and the program's first postseason victory (a win at Oklahoma State in the first round of the NIT). That season, he also won the Haggerty Award from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Jordan set a program record with 813 career assists.
