Men’s Basketball Downs Fairfield In Series Opener

Red Foxes Set Season Bests In Field Goal Percentage, Assists, Blocks

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team used a team effort to defeat Fairfield, 73-63, on Friday evening in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at McCann Arena.
 
Summary
  • Fairfield jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first 1:18.
  • The Stags' lead reached as much as seven, but a three-pointer by Raheim Sullivan tied the score at 20 apiece at the 9:39 mark of the first half.
  • The Red Foxes took their first lead on a mid-range baseline jumper by Javon Cooley at the 7:27 mark. Cooley then drained a three on Marist's next possession, which put the Red Foxes up five.
  • Marist had two 9-0 runs in the first half. The second, which included baskets on back-to-back possessions by Jordan Jones, gave the Red Foxes a 14-point lead.
  • Victor Enoh's basket in the waning seconds of the first half enabled the Red Foxes to take a 42-30 lead to the locker room.
  • In the second half, Marist's lead swelled its largest advantage of 16 on five occasions.
  • Fairfield cut its margin to nine in the second half twice. A 7-0 run brought the Stags to within 55-46 with 10:56 to play, but Braden Bell answered with a three on the ensuing possession. Fairfield also came within nine with 2:54 remaining, but Marist responded with the next four points.

  • Sullivan and Jones tied for Marist's high with 14 points. Sullivan added a game-high nine assists, and Jones shot 7-for-9 from the field.
  • Matt Herasme hauled in a game-high seven rebounds for Marist.
  • Marist had 21 assists against just eight turnovers.
  • Marist shot .560 (28-for-50) from the field, while Fairfield was held to .407 (22-for-54).

  • Herasme's seven rebounds tied a season high.
  • Jones has now scored in double figures for four straight games, and has blocked a shot in eight straight.
  • Marist's win snapped a three-game losing streak.
