LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey – The Marist men's basketball team fell to Rider, 76-64, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Friday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
- Rider scored the game's first five points, but Marist answered with a 6-0 run.
- A 9-0 run enabled the Broncs to take a 10-point lead at the 9:33 mark of the first half.
- Raheim Sullivan's three-pointer at the 4:59 mark of the first half brought Marist to within two, but Rider immediately answered with a 7-0 run.
- The Broncs' lead reached as high as 12 in the first half, and they took a 36-26 lead to the locker room.
- Ricardo Wright's driving layup cut Rider's lead to eight with 17:55 left, but Rider countered with seven straight points.
- Rider's lead reached a game high of 20 with 6:17 to play. Marist responded with a 7-0 run, and got to within 11 with 1:26 to play, but came no closer.
- Sullivan (17 points) led three Red Foxes in double figures. He was joined by Jordan Jones (10) and Tyler Saint-Furcy (10).
- Matt Herasme grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and added nine points.
- Jones blocked six shots, and also contributed five rebounds and two steals.
- Rider's Dwight Murray Jr. led all scorers with 22. The Broncs' Rodney Henderson Jr. tied Herasme for the game high with eight boards.
- Rider shot .492 (30-for-61) from the field, while Marist shot .475 (28-for-59). Rider shot .440 (11-for-25) from three-point range, while Marist shot .182 (4-for-22).
- Marist committed 14 turnovers, while Rider had eight.
- Jones set a career high with his six blocked shots. He has 15 blocked shots in his last four games.
- Sullivan's 17 points were a career high.
- Saint-Furcy's 10 points were a season best.
- Herasme set a season high with his eight rebounds.
"It's a two-fold thing," head coach
John Dunne said. "We're disappointed in not just the loss, but our level of competition. We've seemed at times this year to not bring a good enough competitive spirit."
- Marist is 7-6 overall and 5-6 in the MAAC.
- Rider is 4-10 on the season and 4-7 in conference play.
- Marist and Rider wrap up their series on Saturday at 7 p.m.
