POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Senior
Natalie Kelchner of the Marist women's soccer team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year on Monday.
Kelchner, who was also named First Team All-MAAC, was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week twice during the regular season. In the regular season, Kelchner led the MAAC in save percentage in the regular season (.871). She also ranked second in goals against (0.87), tied for second in clean sheets (four), and third in saves per game (6.29). She held the opposition to either zero or one goal in 12 of the Red Foxes' 14 regular-season contests, and played every minute in goal. She is the second MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year in program history, following Mellanie Nai in 2001.
Three Red Foxes also earned Second Team All-MAAC honors:
Amanda Caldarelli,
Deanna Lomino, and
Samantha Sturno. Caldarelli led the Red Foxes with four goals this season, including both in Marist's 2-1 win over Saint Peter's on Sept. 26. Lomino and Sturno solidified a strong defensive unit that ranked second in the MAAC in goals against. Lomino, who joined the Red Foxes as a graduate transfer, had a goal and an assist this season. Sturno is a three-year starter who served as a captain, played all but 12 minutes this season, and notched an assist in the Red Foxes' 1-1 tie at Maine on Sept. 12.
Autumn Smith was named the MAAC All-Rookie Team. Smith played in every match for the Red Foxes this season, and notched a pair of assists. Her first came against Canisius on Sept. 29, as she set up
Chance Hendricks for the lone goal in the Red Foxes' 1-0 triumph.
