Men’s Basketball Falls By Four at Army West Point

Freshman Ituka Leads Red Foxes With 12

WEST POINT, New York – The Marist men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game at Army West Point on Saturday, 65-61.
 
Summary
  • Noah Harris' back-to-back three-pointers staked Marist to a 13-6 lead at the 11:56 mark of the first half, and forced Army to call for time.
  • The Black Knights countered with a 10-0 run, punctuated by an Isaiah Caldwell three-pointer at the 9:13 mark, which gave Army a 16-13 advantage.
  • The Red Foxes answered with a 7-0 run, which included three-pointers by Raheim Sullivan and Ricardo Wright.
  • In the final six minutes of the first half, neither team led by more than three. With 1:04 left in the half, Matt Dove's basket tied the game at 27 apiece, and that was the score entering halftime.
  • The Black Knights started the second half on a 12-2 run to build a 10-point lead.
  • Marist answered with a 7-0 run keyed by freshman guards Harris and Jao Ituka. Harris had two free throws and a three-pointer, which set up by Ituka, who had a layup in that run.
  • Back-to-back layups by Ituka closed Marist's deficit to 42-41 with 10:04 to play.
  • Back-to-back threes by Jalen Rucker staked the Black Knights to a nine-point lead with 7:18 left.
  • Samkelo Cele scored five points in 32 seconds to bring Marist within four at the 6:12 mark. However, the Red Foxes never cut the gap to a one-possession game until a three-point play by Matt Herasme with three seconds left.

  • Ituka led three Red Foxes in double digits with 12 points. He was joined by Herasme and Harris, who had 11 apiece.
  • Jordan Jones had a team-high six rebounds, while seven Red Foxes had at least four. Marist outrebounded Army, 38-33.
  • Rucker led all scorers with 24 points.
  • Army shot .449 (22-for-49) from the field, while Marist shot .381 (24-for-63).

  • The Black Knights now lead the all-time series, 11-10.
  • Three of Marist's five games this year have been decided by four points or less. The Red Foxes are 1-2 in these games.
  • Harris scored in double figures for the second straight game. He is 7-for-12 (.583) from three-point range in his last two.
