Central Michigan Tops Women’s Basketball

Red Foxes Fall at Home, 56-50

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's basketball team was defeated by Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon at McCann Arena by a score of 56-50.
 
Summary
  • After a scoreless first 2:16, Molly Davis' jumper got Central Michigan on the board with the first points of the game.
  • The game remained 2-0 until Zaria Shazer got the Red Foxes on the scoreboard with a layup at the 4:44 mark.
  • In the final seconds of the first quarter, Anabel Ellison's scoop-and-score gave the Red Foxes their first lead at 10-9. This was Marist's advantage after the first 10 minutes.
  • Central Michigan scored six straight points in 55 seconds to take its largest lead of the first half, 28-23 at the 2:33 mark of the second quarter. However, the Red Foxes answered with five straight, and Erin Fox's three-pointer at the 1:46 mark tied the score at 28. The score remained 28-28 going into halftime.
  • Central Michigan scored the first nine points of the second half, which included six straight from Jahari Smith.
  • Marist cut its deficit to four on two occasions in the third quarter, but Molly Davis scored five straight to extend the Chippewas' lead back to nine. A three-pointer by Erin Fox cut Marist's deficit to 46-40 late in the third quarter, and that was the score after 30 minutes.
  • Marist then scored the first five points in the fourth quarter on a three-point play by Julianna Bonilla, and mid-range jumper by Erin Fox. Central Michigan called for time at the 7:08 mark, with its lead down to 46-45.
  • Central Michigan extended its lead to five, but a three by Kendall Krick cut it to two at 52-50 with 1:07 left.
  • Davis' jumper in the lane extended the Chippewas' lead to 54-50 with 27.5 seconds remaining. Davis hit two free throws in the final seconds to cap the scoring.

  • Shazer led the Red Foxes in points (11), rebounds (nine) and blocked shots (two).
  • Krick and Fox both had nine points; Krick had five rebounds, while Fox had four.
  • Kiara Fisher had seven points, a game-high four assists, two rebounds, and two steals.
  • Davis led all scorers with 21 points, and added eight rebounds and three assists.
  • Smith had 12 points and 13 rebounds; Anika Weekes had a game-high 15 rebounds and nine points.
  • Central Michigan held a 46-31 advantage in rebounds, with 17 boards on the offensive end.
 
Notes
  • Fox, who made her first collegiate start, had career highs with her nine points and four rebounds.
  • This was Central Michigan's first trip to Poughkeepsie. The Red Foxes are now 0-2 against the Chippewas all-time.
  • The Red Foxes are now 5-4 against the schools that currently comprise the Mid-American Conference.
