Lafayette Slips Past Marist

Shazer Totals 14 Points & 19 Rebounds

EASTON, Pennsylvania - The Marist women's basketball team was defeated by Lafayette by a final score of 53-50 on Wednesday night.
 
Summary
  • Lafayette got out to an early 4-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
  • Zaria Shazer had six of the Red Foxes first 10 points.
  • Siobhan Boylan and Emma Wax both had threes in the first half despite Marist being down 25-20 at the break.
  • With 2:08 remaining in the third quarter, Lafayette opened up a 36-26 lead.
  • Marist went on an 8-2 run in the fourth quarter to cut the Lafayette lead to 42-39 with 5:42 remaining in regulation.
  • With one minute remaining in the fourth quarter, Lafayette held onto a one point lead after a bucket from Kiara Fisher.
  • With 10 seconds left in regulation, Fisher's jumper tied the game at 50-50.
  • A free throw by Lafayette gave the Leopards a 51-50 lead with three seconds remaining, and hit two more free throws with one second left. Marist was unable to tie the game on its last possession.

  • Zaria Shazer recorded another double-double on the night, with 14 points and 19 rebounds.
  • Siobhan Boylan recorded her first career double digit scoring game with 13 points.
  • Fisher (12 points) gave the Red Foxes three double-figure scorers.
  • Jessica Booth had a game-high 18 points on 2-for-2 shooting from three for Lafayette.
 
Notes
  • Marist is now tied in the all-time series 1-1 with Lafayette. This was the first meeting between the teams in 13 years.
  • Shazer tied her career in points, and set her career high in rebounds. Her total of 19 was just two shy of the program record, set by Stephanie Del Preore at Rider on Jan. 31, 2004.
  • Both teams are now 2-5 on the season.
