HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Marist volleyball team won its fifth straight match on Saturday with a 3-2 win at Quinnipiac in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match. The Red Foxes prevailed 26-24, 25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 15-10.
- Quinnipiac jumped out to an early lead in the first set, but the Red Foxes stayed within striking distance due to three kills from Sasha van der Merwe.
- The Bobcats held an 11-6 lead before the Red Foxes reeled off five straight points. Marist scored six straight soon after to go up 18-15.
- Quinnipiac re-claimed the lead at 23-22, but Gabriella Heimbauer had kills to earn Marist's final four points in its first set victory.
- In a competitive second set, a 7-2 spurt gave Marist a 13-9 lead.
- With the score tied at 18, Marist scored four straight points, and led the rest of the set.
- Quinnipiac scored four straight points early in the third set, and then reeled off six straight with the set tied at 10. The Bobcats led the rest of the way to force set four.
- Quinnipiac led for much of the fourth set, but Marist came back to take a late lead. With the score tied at 21, the Bobcats scored three straight points and sent the match to a decisive fifth set.
- With the score tied at nine in the fifth set, Marist scored five straight. Heimbauer had kills on three of Marist's final four points.
- Jordan Newblatt led Marist in kills (18) and digs (19).
- McKinley Fox had a match-high 45 assists in addition to eight digs, three kills, and two aces.
- Vanessa Zolg had a team-best three blocks to go along with three kills.
- For Quinnipiac, Nicole Legg had 14 kills, 10 blocks, and a .619 hitting percentage.
- Marist's five-match winning streak is the program's longest since 2014.
- Marist is now 7-2 in five-set matches this season.
- Marist is 17-10 on the season and 12-4 in the MAAC.
- Quinnipiac is 8-16 this season and 7-8 in conference play.
