POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Red-shirt junior left tackle and captain
Ben Johnson of the Marist football team was named Second Team Pioneer Football League (PFL) All-Academic on Wednesday.
Johnson is a Business Administration/Finance major. He is a five-time Marist Dean's List selection, and has been named to the PFL Academic Honor Roll each of the last three years.
Johnson started all 10 games for the Red Foxes at left tackle this season, and he was honored for his on-field performance by being named Second Team All-PFL on Tuesday. Thanks to his protection efforts, Marist led the PFL in fewest turnovers and turnover margin. Johnson initially joined the starting lineup at right tackle midway through the 2019 season.
To be eligible for PFL All-Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale, and have reached his second season academically and played at least one full season at his current school.
Wednesday's Academic All-PFL Teams conclude the league's award announcements.
The Marist football team finished the 2021 season at 5-5 overall and 5-3 in PFL play.
