POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's lacrosse team defeated Manhattan, 9-7, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night at Tenney Stadium. It was the season opener for both teams.
- Manhattan's Meghan Rodino scored the game's first goal 59 seconds in, but Kerri Gutenberger answered for the Red Foxes 59 seconds afterward.
- Samantha Mehalick's tally at the 25:44 mark, set up by Devon Connolly, gave Marist its first lead.
- Three goals in a span of 4:18 staked Manhattan to a 4-2 lead with 10:14 left in the first half.
- Goals by Gutenberger and Mehalick 38 seconds apart tied the score at four with 4:31 remaining in the first half, and those were the last scores of the first 30 minutes.
- Goals by Kelly George and Alex Di Chiara gave Marist its first two-goal lead at 6-4 with 23:49 to go.
- Manhattan twice cut the margin to one goal, but was unable to tie the game. Goals by Gutenberger and George extended Marist's lead to a game high of three with 2:39 remaining.
- Gutenberger led Marist with four points. She and Mehalick each scored a team-high three goals.
- Melissa Bucher scooped a team-high four ground balls for Marist.
- Isabelle Stockman led the Red Foxes with four draw controls.
