POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist opens play in the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship on Friday afternoon. The fifth-seeded Red Foxes take on fourth-seeded Canisius on Friday at 4 p.m. in Buffalo.
In this year's MAAC Championship, all seven remaining teams are in this year's championship. The quarterfinal round will take place on Friday. The semifinals will take place on Wednesday, May 5, with the championship game scheduled for Saturday, May 8.
The winner of Friday's contest will next take on top-seeded Manhattan.
A closer look at the Red Foxes & Golden Griffins:
- Marist is the defending MAAC champion. The Red Foxes have won conference titles in 2005, 2015, and 2019.
- Canisius won the title in 2008, 2012, and 2018.
- Marist is 17-9 all-time against Canisius, having won seven of the last nine meetings.
- Marist is 2-0 against Canisius all-time in MAAC Championship play. The Red Foxes prevailed in the semifinals in both 2017 and 2019. Both contests took place at Tenney Stadium; this is the first postseason meeting between the teams in Buffalo.
- Marist and Canisius have not faced each other since 2019.
