NEW ROCHELLE, New York – The Marist softball team was swept in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader at Iona on Saturday. The Gaels won the first game, 9-3, and scored the winning run in the bottom of the second to win the second game, 3-2.

• Kaley Coltrain's single brought home Sam Freeland with the game's first run in the top of the first.
• Iona scored three times in the bottom of the first, including a two-run homer by Jamie Sheeran.
• In the top of the third, another RBI single by Coltrain plated Freeland.
• Jessica Chilcott's solo homer gave Iona a 4-2 lead in the fifth.
• Marist cut its deficit to one in the sixth on Freeland's RBI single, but the Red Foxes left the bases loaded.
• Iona scored five in the bottom of the sixth. Alana Evans had a two-run double in the inning, followed by a two-run single by Kayla Haywood.
• Freeland, Coltrain, and Ali Milam had two hits apiece for the Red Foxes.
• Nicole Teague struck out four in 4.1 for Marist.
• Kara Zazzaro went the distance for Iona. She struck out eight, walked six, and gave up eight hits.
• Sheeran and Haywood each drove in three runs for the Gaels.

• The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth, when Hunter Hand laid down a bunt, and a wild throw enabled the Red Foxes to take a 2-0 lead.
• In the bottom of the fifth, a throwing error allowed Iona to tie the score at two.
• With two outs of the bottom of the seventh, Natalia Meray's single brought home Kayla Haywood with the game-winning run.
• Calista Phippen pitched a complete game and struck out 11 for the Red Foxes. Caroline Baratta had two doubles.
• Zazzaro pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the victory in relief.

• Marist and Iona will close out their four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday starting at noon.
• Both games will be shown live on ESPN3.
