LOS ANGELES, California - Graduate student
Justine Castro of the Marist water polo team was named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Second Team late Sunday night.Â
The Red Foxes played two games in this year's NCAA Tournament hosted by the UCLA Bruins. Marist defeated Salem University 9-8 in the opening round, but then fell to eventual National Champion #1 USC in the Elite Eight.Â
Castro was excellent for Marist, scoring a combined three goals in both games, including two against the number one team in the nation. She also had a combined two steals and two drawn exclusions throughout the tournament.Â
The Red Foxes finished the 2021 season with a 9-1 record. The campaign included milestones such as the program's first NCAA Tournament birth since 2010, and first under Head Coach
Chris Vidale, the program's first non-consolation victory in the NCAA Tournament in its history, and the team's best start/second-longest winning streak in program history.Â
