POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist volleyball team swept the first day of competition at the Mason Invitational on Saturday afternoon, defeating both Robert Morris and Morgan State after taking both teams to five sets. 

The Red Foxes are now 5-5 overall on the 2021 season. 

 

MORGAN STATE SUMMARY

• The Red Foxes defeated won the first set by a score of 25-21. 
• The Bears reversed the score on Marist in the second set, winning 25-21. 
• In a tightly contested third set, the Red Foxes were able to edge the Bears 25-23. 
• Morgan State wouldn't go down without a fight, defeating Marist 25-21 (again) in the fourth set. 
• In the deciding fifth set, Marist was able to steal it 15-9 and win the match 3-2. 

 

ROBERT MORRIS SUMMARY

• The Colonials got off to a quick start in set one, winning 25-17. 
• Marist was able to bounce back in set two, winning a close set by the score of 27-25. 
• Robert Morris dominated set three, winning 25-18. 
• The Red Foxes evened up the score at two after reversing the score and winning 25-18. 
• Marist took control of the fifth set and won easily by a score 15-8. 

 

STATS/NOTES

• Jordan Newblatt led the Red Foxes with a career-high 23 kills against Morgan State. She had double-doubles in both games. 
• Madelyn Waumans had a career-high 20 kills against Morgan State, than one-upped herself in game two and had 24 kills. She added 20 digs in game two, marking a historic 20-20 performance. 
• Morgan Owens Totaled 41 digs between both games. 
• McKinley Fox had an absolutely stellar day for the Red Foxes, totaling 111 assists in the two games, including a career-high 61 assists against Morgan State. 
• Jillian Hanna had a career-high 19 digs against Robert Morris.

• Marist opens MAAC play with its Buffalo trip next weekend, with the first match coming against Niagara on September 18. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
