NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, New York – The Marist volleyball team dropped a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Niagara on Saturday. The Purple Eagles won 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-23).
 

Summary

• After trailing for most of the first set, Marist reeled off six straight points and took a 16-13 lead.
• The Red Foxes held a 21-20 lead, but the Purple Eagles closed the set with five consecutive points.
• Near the midway point of the second set, the Red Foxes scored four straight points to tie the score at 15. Vanessa Zolg was involved in back-to-back blocks in this stretch.
• Niagara countered with a 6-1 run, and scored the final three points of the set for a 25-18 set two victory.
• There were six lead changes early in the third set.
• Niagara went on a 5-1 run to take a 21-16 lead, but Marist countered with five straight points, which included two kills from Gabby Murray.
• Niagara scored the next three points. Marist then fended off two match points, but the Purple Eagles won a long rally on the next point for a 25-23 set three victory.

• Reigning MAAC Player of the Week Madelyn Waumans paced Marist in kills (13) and digs (22). The 22 digs were a career high.
• Waumans hit .205, and has hit over .200 in four straight matches.
• Jordan Newblatt tied her career high with 18 digs.
• Zolg had a team-high four blocks.
• McKinley Fox had 29 assists.
• Marist hit .159 for the match, while Niagara hit .182.
• For Niagara, Jaycie Roberts had 19 kills and 15 digs while hitting .444.

• Marist is 5-7 on the season; Niagara is 4-6.
• This was the MAAC opener for both teams.
