POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football program has named five captains for the 2021 season: red-shirt junior linebacker
Mike Arrington, red-shirt senior quarterback
Austin Day, graduate safety
Kyle Fleitman, red-shirt junior offensive lineman
Ben Johnson, and red-shirt junior linebacker
Arthur Pinckney.
This quintet was chosen as the result of a vote among both players and coaches.
"We're proud to have Mike, Austin, Kyle, Ben, and Arthur lead our football team this season," head coach
Jim Parady said. "All of them have earned the respect of their teammates and the trust of our coaching staff. They have grown both on and off the field during their time here, and they have earned this recognition."
Arrington is a three-time Pioneer Football League Honor Roll (PFL) recipient. Day took over as the Red Foxes' starting quarterback midway through the 2018 season, and has 13 career starts. Fleitman was named Second Team All-PFL in 2019, Preseason All-PFL in 2021, and is Marist's nominee for the Campbell Trophy. Johnson took over as a starter on the offensive line in 2019, and is a three-time PFL Honor Roll recipient. Pinckney is Co-President of Marist's Black Student-Athlete Alliance, is Marist's nominee for the AFCA AllState GoodWorks Team, and was named CSAE Student-Athlete of the Month and to the PFL Academic Honor Roll last year.
Marist is next scheduled to face Columbia on Saturday, Sept. 18.
