Women's Basketball Defeats Niagara in MAAC Play

The Red Foxes Notch a Conference Win Against the Purple Eagles

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York- The Marist women's basketball team defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Saturday night, by a score of 72-65. The Red Foxes overall record is 5-10 and 3-4 in MAAC Play. The Purple Eagle overall record is 6-10, and 3-5 in conference play.
 
SUMMARY
  • Marist started the game strong, with a couple consecutive runs to expand their initial lead against Niagara. The Red Foxes shot 7-for-16 (43.8%) from the field and 2-for-7 from three, the Purple Eagles shot 6-for-19 (31.6%) from the field and 1-for-5 from three in the first quarter.
  • Niagara finished the first quarter with a buzzer beater to cut Marist's lead to a basket, 17-15.
  • Niagara's scoring drought of 4:12, allowed the Red Foxes to go on a 18-3 run over 7:04 with just over a minute remaining in the second quarter, ending the half with a score of 39-26.
  • In the third quarter, Marist expanded their lead to 60-43, its largest margin of the game. In the third, the Red Foxes shot 10-for-17 (58%), The Purple Eagles shot 8-for-20 (40.0%).
  • Marist scoring drought of 2:55 allowed the Purple Eagles to go on a few mini runs to cut the lead to nine-points with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but in the end the Red Foxes were able to pull away with the victory.

  • For the game, Marist shot .508 (30-of-59) from the field, only hitting three three-pointers.
  • Notching a career-high, Shazer collected 23 points. Shooting 10-for-16 (.625) from the field, 1-for-1 from the arc and 2-2 from the free-throw line.
  • Kendall Krick recorded a career-high of 14 points and six rebounds. Krick shot 7-for-9 from the field.
  • Krick and Shazer were the only two Red Foxes in double-digits. Marist outscored Niagara in the paint 42-36.  The Purple Eagles outrebounded the Red Foxes 44-38.
  • Kiara Fisher tied her career-high in assists (8).
  • Angel Parker led the Purple Eagles in points (22), rebounds (7) and assists (5).
